lodger: honeymoon is over Third album by Helsinki quartet Lodger predicts that ”Honeymoon Is Over”. Although the album includes all the elements they’ve become known of: cynical and totally inappropriate lyrics, hard-hitting sense of hit melodies and soundscape combining the best elements of the 20th century it is time for the unfortunate band to leave a number of things behind. Like a bankrupt

LODGER

Lodger is the band who could’ve had it all. The nihilistic animation videos band’s bass player put together in his spare time brought over 5 million unique visitors to their website within a mere nine months, which led into various international video prizes, various requests for commercial partnerships out of which the band only selected those that suited their means: music.

Along with the unpredicted success of the animations their debut album ”Hi-Fi High Lights Down Low” got rave reviews all over the place and took the band to play live shows in the USA, Canada, France, Germany and the UK. The music was included in various prime time TV series like ABC’s Californication and The Greek to mention but a few.

Upon return back home in their native Finland their record label at the time – Recall Records – announced they would be bankrupt and work for the debut was cut short. This however, caused no serious reactions within the band members, their comments suited the story: “shit happens – every day”.

The band had already started recording the album #2 “How Vulgar”, which in the end turned out to be everything else but satisfactory. Whatever their honest inner thoughts about the final outcome were was put together in one sentence doing promotion in Germany: ”Unser Album ist Scheisse” (”our album sucks”). (Loop magazine June 2008)

"Can’t really blame anyone, it (How Vulgar) was everything but what we wanted it to be” says the bassist and lyricist Hannes Häyhä and continues: "On the other hand, it could not have been easier to start working on “Honeymoon is over” – you can’t go more wrong than on How Vulgar”

The release of the third album is possibly a new start for the band. At least Lodger are happy with the outcome.

First single ”Prefontaine” b/w ”Chemicals” is released as a DRM-free download on October 1st globally. For the first time ever, the band also takes part in voluntary work giving away an outtake song “Stalker” from the Honeymoon sessions along with Mr. Häyhä’s animation video in conjunction with world’s contraception day.

As someone might have guessed, it did not all go smoothly with the animation project either: Original title for the video ”Good (Se)Men Are Hard To Find” had to be changed as this was considered offensive by people in charge of the contraception project. However, It might be that the original uncensored video is floating around somewhere in the web…..
